How to build multimedia structures with transparent Infiled HOLO LED curtains

A practical guide for exhibition designers, scenographers, agencies and technical production companies

Transparent LED curtains are usually described through technical parameters: pixel pitch, brightness, weight, transparency, refresh rate and IP rating.

All of that matters.

But in real design work, the more interesting question is different:

What can you actually build with it?

That is exactly what we want to focus on.

A transparent LED curtain does not have to be just a screen hanging from truss. It can become a lightweight modular scenic material used to build walls, façades, corners, cubes, arcs, cylinders, pop-up structures and complete multimedia environments.

The main module: 1000 × 500 mm

The base of the system is the 1000 × 500 mm module.

This is the main element used to design most structures. It works well for large transparent LED walls, exhibition stand façades, multimedia backdrops, scenic layers for stages, booth envelopes, brand zones, rectangular structures and larger visual surfaces.

Most concepts should start from this module.

It keeps the layout clean, scalable and practical for installation.

The support module: 500 × 500 mm

The second format is the 500 × 500 mm module.

This is a support module. It should not be treated as the primary building unit for the whole structure, but as a complementary element.

It is especially useful for half-metre adjustments, creating 1.5 m dimensions, closing edges, filling selected areas, adapting the structure to unusual geometry and adding flexibility to the final layout.

The simplest rule is:

1000 × 500 mm = main module
500 × 500 mm = support module

This is important for designers and scenographers. The smaller module gives more freedom, but the main logic of the structure should still be based mainly on the 1000 × 500 mm module.

Straight walls

The simplest application of a transparent LED curtain is a straight wall.

Modules are connected side by side in one plane, creating a lightweight multimedia surface. This can work as an exhibition stand wall, brand façade, product presentation background, visual partition, concert scenic element, transparent decorative layer or external envelope for an event zone.

Thanks to around 50% transparency, this type of wall does not close the space in the same way as a traditional LED screen.

You can see people.
You can see products.
You can see light.
You can see movement behind the screen.

That makes a huge difference in exhibition and event projects, where the structure needs to attract attention without turning the space into a heavy closed box.

Transparency: why 50% matters

Transparency is one of the most important features of this system.

The LED curtain displays content, but at the same time allows you to see what is behind it. This makes it possible to combine LED visuals with real space, scenography, lighting, products or people inside the structure.

In practice, a transparent LED curtain can work as a multimedia façade, visual layer, scenic skin, lightweight booth envelope or architectural screen.

Transparency also matters outdoors. Because part of the air can pass through the surface, wind impact may be lower than with a fully solid LED wall. Of course, this does not replace structural calculations, ballast, rigging or proper technical design, but it gives designers and technical teams a much more interesting starting point for large temporary installations.

90-degree corners: from screen to architecture

A flat LED wall is useful, but the most interesting structures begin when the screen starts shaping space.

With 90-degree connections, it is possible to build corners, L-shaped walls, U-shaped structures, cubes, rectangular booth envelopes, pop-up rooms, brand pavilions and multimedia perimeter walls.

This changes the way we think about LED.

We are no longer designing only a place where a screen will hang. We are designing a space where the screen becomes part of the architecture.

A small 1 × 1 m corner already shows the principle. The same logic can then be scaled into a 3 × 3 × 3 m cube, a large exhibition stand façade or a complete multimedia envelope around a brand space.

Arcs and cylinders

Transparent LED curtains can also create curved and cylindrical forms.

But one rule is important: the module remains straight, and the angle is created at the connection between modules.

The system allows angled connections from -15° to +15°, adjustable in 2.5° steps. This makes it possible to design segmented curved walls, soft arcs, cylinders, semi-circular façades, circular brand zones, transparent 360° forms and rounded scenic elements.

The smaller the angle between modules, the softer the arc. The larger the angle, the tighter the shape.

For designers, this means one thing: arcs and cylinders should be designed as segmented structures, not as flexible bent surfaces.

Mounting: hanging, stacking and structure

INFiLED HoloLight was designed as a rental system. That means it has to work in repeated installations, dismantling, transport and different configurations.

The 1000 × 500 mm module weighs around 7.5 kg, which gives a lot of freedom when designing larger surfaces.

Depending on the project, the system can be flown from truss, ground-supported, integrated with scenic structures, used as an exhibition stand façade, built into pop-up structures or combined with lighting, audio and other display technologies.

The mounting method should always come from the project itself.

Is the structure indoors or outdoors?
How tall is it?
Will it be exposed to wind?
Where are the loads transferred?
How does service access work?
How quickly does it need to be installed?

These are questions worth asking at the beginning, not after the render has already been approved.

Locks, positioning and fast setup

In rental projects, visual impact is only one part of the story. Speed and repeatability of installation matter just as much.

The system uses positioning pins and a pre-lock mechanism to help align modules faster and connect them securely.

A typical planning process looks like this:

  1. Define the geometry of the structure.
  2. Decide where straight, angled and 90-degree connections are needed.
  3. Prepare the supporting structure.
  4. Start from a clean first installation line.
  5. Align modules using pins and locks.
  6. Plan power and signal routes.
  7. Check module orientation and image mapping.
  8. Test the content and camera performance.
  9. Confirm service access.

A transparent LED curtain is not only decoration. It is a technical scenic system that needs proper planning.

Service access matters

Even the best-looking LED structure must be serviceable.

This is especially important when the curtain is used as an external booth wall, tall façade, curved surface, cube or enclosed brand environment.

Before finalizing the design, check whether rear access is possible, whether front service can be used, where the control boxes are located, whether a module can be replaced without dismantling a large part of the structure, whether cable routes are accessible and whether the crew has enough working space.

These are not small details. They affect installation time, safety and reliability on site.

Key technical parameters

When working with transparent LED curtains, resolution and brightness are not the only important parameters.

The key design parameters include module size, transparency, weight, brightness, refresh rate, IP rating, angle range, locking system, service access, signal mapping flexibility and control system compatibility.
